How do you correct...

How do you correctly take a baby’s hand or foot prints on ceramic?

Baby footprints on ceramic are a precious memory, capturing a unique moment from their early childhood. For a precise and aesthetic result, here is a step-by-step guide to creating a perfect, smudge-free footprint !

Get your material ready

Before you begin, make sure you have everything you need ready. Choose a ceramic piece, such as a plate or a frame, to place the footprint on. Prepare some paint on a palette, a small sponge or a paintbrush for application, and keep some wet wipes nearby to clean your baby’s feet after taking the footprint.

Apply the paint

Put a small quantity of paint onto the palette. Then apply the paint to the sole of your baby’s foot using the sponge, taking care not to use too much. A thin layer of paint ensures a detailed, smudge-free finish, capturing every curve of the foot. Be careful not to apply too much paint between the toes.

Place the ceramic piece

Place the ceramic piece on a stable surface within easy reach to prevent it from moving accidentally. Make sure it does not slip while you are applying the footprint, as this could affect the result. Use a soft support to secure the ceramic piece if necessary.

Apply the footprint

Gently take your baby’s foot and start by placing the heel on the ceramic. Then apply light but firm pressure, gradually moving up towards the toes, making sure to press down firmly on every part of the foot to capture all the details. This technique ensures an uniform transfer of the footprint without any unnecessary movement.

Carefully remove the foot

Once the footprint has been applied, gently lift your baby’s foot, pulling it straight up. This prevents any slipping that might cause smudges, ensuring a clear, well-defined footprint.

Let it dry and then clean it

Let the paint dry before bringing the piece back to us for firing. Wipe the baby’s feet quickly to prevent the paint from drying on his skin.

A few more tips

Wait until your piece is completely dry before handling the ceramic to avoid damaging the footprint. If this is your first attempt, you can practise on paper. If you make a mistake, you can use a wet sponge to wipe it off and start again. Finally, create a calm environment so that your baby is relaxed and cooperative during the activity. You can also do this while they are asleep.

By following these steps, you’ll end up with a wonderful memory, immortalising your baby’s adorable little feet on a unique piece of ceramic !
